Three dial analog "GEAR" clock. Each gear is accurately selected for correct gear ratios. Balance wheel (regulator/pendulum) swings back and forth approx 90 degrees for one full sweep per second, the lever pallet swings back and forth in response to the balance wheel. The 30 tooth escapement wheel moves 12 degrees (1/30th of a full turn) every second. To allow the teeth of the escapement to appear to move instead of simply jumping to the next tooth, a innovative equation was devised to average one "SMOOTH SECOND" value and two "SECOND" values, to get two thirds of a full tick but one third of a smooth second hand movement.
Tap 3 o'clock to turn off faces to view the gear action. Tap the 9 o'clock to turn off gears to view only the faces. Tapping the same button a second time reverts to normal view with gears under the faces.
When the screen dims, it automatically reverts to normal mode, the gears are greatly masked with a dark layer and the colored transparent faces turn gray. The second hand also disappears during dim mode, since the seconds don't move while dim.
